Base Stations and Repeaters

Should you have the need to communicate to other portable and/or mobile radios from a fixed location, such as an office or main dispatch center, a base station can enhance and extend the range of your communications. A base station typically includes a higher power radio and desktop microphone. The radio's antenna is usually positioned at a high point, such as a building roof or nearby tower, depending on the distance that you need to communicate to portable or mobile radios in your organization.

A repeater is usually installed at a high elevation, such as a mountain or tall building, to provide portable, base and mobile radio communications with extended coverage over a wide geographical area. The repeater receives a weak signal from a low power portable or mobile radio and simultaneously retransmits it with a higher power level.
